New underground line

Traffic experts expect rail travel to increase significantly in Switzerland over the coming decades. To help cope with this increase, Zurich’s main railway station is currently being expanded by a new underground train station – the Löwenstrasse railway station – which will connect to the existing network via the new Weinberg tunnel.

For Zurich’s future

Once this new cross-city line – the so-called Durchmesserlinie – becomes operational in 2013, Zurich will be an even more attractive business hub. Investment in this project amounts to some 1.8 billion Swiss francs. Responsibility for project planning and site management of the Löwenstrasse train station and the Weinberg tunnel rests with the ZALO engineering consortium (Basler & Hofmann, Pöyry and SNZ, with lead and project management by Basler & Hofmann).
