The importance of geotechnical physical modelling in solving infrastructure problems caused by climate change
Dr. R.S. Steedman: Flooding New Orleans: modelling the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
The talk will be introduced by Prof. S.M. Springman, Head of Institute for Geotechnical Engineering, with a brief review celebrating 75 years of soil mechanics at ETH
Dr. Scott Steedman has engaged in resolving complex coupled geotechnical infrastructure problems over the last two decades from minimising the impact of earthquakes on infrastructure to thinking outside the box in dealing with the expected and unknown influences of climate change on levee systems and dams. He is someone who challenges conventional thinking and is open to generating change, where it is needed. He has taken great interest in recent times in endeavoring to elevate the profile of the civil engineering profession in Great Britain.
